I spotted this little guy at Thrift Town in San Leandro the other day.  It was impossible to tell what he was.  Obviously mechanical–but what was his purpose?  There was no way to tell.

I even conferred with a few of the other Thrift Town patrons.  They agreed-what was it?

This past weekend I shared my friend Heather’s birthday with her in Reno, Nevada…

My cat Guster must have run off to LA for this photo shoot.

I laughed…I cried.  I missed The Guster.  My new friend Jennie shared with me tales of her cat who seeks out puddles (can’t be true!).  Our cats share a love of getting our attention by enthusiastically shaking closed bathroom doors.  I bemoaned, once again, not having a dog to call my own (my landlord won’t allow it), but enjoyed Heather’s tales of once having 7 dogs.  I have vague memories of visiting all of them when we were in high school, and remember that it was always quite an adventure.  She and I both look forward to sharing our lives with the adventure of dog ownership soon.

As far as Reno, though there was pet paraphenelia, dogs just wouldn’t–and shouldn’t–be happy and included in casinos.  Too few cushions to sleep on and too many video poker terminals to distract one’s owner.
